Tips on the Wood Door
The wood door is a kind of natural wood product used earliest and most extensively in the history. Nowadays, although the science and technology are highly developed and new materials emerge like mushrooms after a spring rain, wood still plays an important role everywhere, especially in the architectural and furniture industries. In a very long period, wood doors, windows, and future took the leading place. Why is wood so widely used? Because it has such inherent features as follows:
     A. Natural Quality: Wood is a kind of natural material. Among four main kinds of material people often use: steel, wood, cement, and plastic, only wood is directly from the Nature, which endows wood with such features as low cost, low consumption, innocuity, non-pollution, etc.
     B. Good texture: Wood has a touch far more acceptably to people than metal, glass, and other materials.
     C. A High Strength-weight Ratio: The strength-weight ratio is higher than common metal. It is a kind of light material with high strength.
     D. Heat-preservation: Compared with other materials, wood have a low thermal conductivity, about 2000 times lower than that of aluminum and 30 times lower than that of plastic. As a result, wood is quite heat-retaining!
     E. InsulatIbity: The point conductance of wood is low, so wood is a good insulating material.
     F. Processability: With beautifully natural grain, wood, as a furniture and decorative material, is very decorative.
Because of the abovementioned characteristics, wood is always preferred by people despite of its shortcomings such as low stability of size, bad anti-corrosive property, bad combustibility, etc. In particular, it is often the first choice of people for articles within people’s sight such as doors, windows, furniture’s, etc.

How to Choose Doors Scientifically
1. The Importance of Purchasing Decorative Doors
Doors a very important part of the whole domestic fitment project. Doors must be decorated. Usually, alterations are adopted to panel both sides of the original door and then paint them during the domestic fitment. But, as some doorframes are made of steel, they cannot be altered. Besides, the result of the alteration is restricted by the on-spot processing techniques, so many complex patterns cannot be finished. As a result, many choose to give up the original doors and to purchase or make new doors. To buy a door is more reasonable, economic, and scientific than to make a door. The reason are as follows:
First, the door bought has a quality than that of the door made on spot. The door made on spot is handmade without a quality guarantee, whereas the door bought is made by professional manufacturers with sophisticated machines and advanced crafts which give the door a quality guarantee. Second, the door bought of the same material and spec with the door made on spot is cheaper than the later, for the manufacturer of the decorative door has a high machenization level, a high productivity, and a low cost of labor, all of which contrbute to the low price of the door bought. Finally, The effect of the door bought is much better than that of the door made on spot. The door bought can achieve many complex decorative effects which the door mammade cannot. In a word, to buy a door is more reasonable, economic, and scientific.

2. Classification of Decorative Doors
According to the structure, decorative doors can be divided into three sorts: the solid wood door, the solid core door, and the plywood door. The solid door is a kind of decorative door made of solid wood. It covers 3 styles: the wood door, the half-glass door, and the glass door. According to the processing technique, the decorative door can be classified into 2 types: the integrated wood door and the original wood door. The integrated wood, sawed and integrated from the original wood, is more stable in performance that the original wood and can better protect the door from being deformed than the original wood door does. The solid wood door generates a sense of stability and elegance in people’s minds.
The solid core door is made up of solid wood doorframe, two sides of fascia panels, and a lead filled with heat-preservation and anti-combustion materials. The kind of door exclude the half-glass and whole-glass doors, but, it can be decorative with small pieces of glass. There are various panels for the solid core door. The solid core door is as thermal-retaining and insulative as the solid wood door, but it is cheaper. Furthermore, it is anti-combustion and produces a feeling of stability and security during the use.
The plywood door is composed of a solid wood doorframe and two sides made of fascia pannels. This kind of door is light, cheap, and decorative. The pannels are usually imported from abroad. It gives a sense of convenience and legerity. It is extensively used in domestic fitment projects.

3. Principle for Choosing the Decorative Door
To buy a decorative door, the buyer should follow such principles as follows:
     A. Match Principle: The tree species, color, and style of the decorative door must be in harmony with the style, color, tree species, and grain of the doorframe and the domestic fitment. Only in this way can an integral decorative effect be produced.
     B. Safety Principle: Whether the gate or the room door must be insulative, antitheft, and strong resistant to shock. In this way, they can insure people of security. So, the user must choose the decorative door which is made of tight materials, has a firm structure, and is safe to use.
     C. Economy Principle: The price of different decorative doors varies greatly. Lots of solid wood doors are expensive and heavy and have a high requirement for the doorframe. Some solid wood doors require springs to be fixed. All of them are unsuitable for the domestic fitment. Decorative doors used for the domestic fitment should keep in proportion with the expense of the whole fitment.

4. Quality Certification of The Decorative Door
The water content of the solid wood door should be less than 12%. Its material standard is same as others’. The process should be accurate without any burr and pores. The half-glass and whole-glass door must be accurate with uniform closing lines. Quality stands for the solid core door are as follows: The leaf is fully filled with fillings; The stile batten must be tightly connected with the inner doorframe; the fascia panel must be tightly connected with the doorframe; there are non edge lifting and cracks; the panel should be smooth and clean without any knurr, wormhole, crack, and corrosive spot. The standards for the plywood door are: The panel connects tightly with the doorframe; there are no edge lifting and crack. The stile batten connects tightly with the inner doorframe; The cross and vertical keels are arranged up to the design standard. The must be a cross keel where the hinge is fixed; The panel should be smooth and clean without knurrs, wornholes, cracks, and corrosive spots; the wood grain is clear-cut and beautiful; the panel must be at least 3mm thick.

5. Analysis on The Price of The Decorative Door
The price of decorative doors varies dramatically. The plywood door is cheapest among all decorative doors, about RMB 300-500 yuan. The solid wood door is most expensive, about RMB500 yuan. The price of the solid core door is mediocre, around RMB400-800 yuan, and the birch solid core door is most expensive. The price of solid wood doors varies greatly according to the tree species.
